With everybody driving to get to the wedding, we are providing directions and maps on how to get to the venue. We don't want anybody to get lost along the way. Hopefully over the next few days, we'll be able to put pictures up and maybe even videos (how geeky is that), of the roads that you will be driving along. At least that way you will recognise the roads that you will be driving along, and the signs to look out for.
1. Firstly, get yourselves up the M6 and onto the M74 arterial route into Scotland. You will need to stay on the M74/A74/A74(M), pretty much until you reach Glasgow (well not quite, but it gives you an idea of the distance!
2. Now you need to take Junction 13 of the M74, which is for the M73.
3. Stay on the M73 for the short distance it runs, and join the A80 Eastbound (you actually have no choice in direction, it is the direction they send you in when leaving the M73!)
4. The A80 runs outand becomes the M80 (on an uphill right hand bend). What you are priveleged to for a very short stretch, is a 3 lane motorway in Central Scotland. Whilst these things are of such novalty to us folk, we urge you to use only the middle and right hand lane. The left hand lane feeds you off to the M876 which you don't want to take. So when you hit the M80, come across to the middle or outside lane.
5. Follow the M80 towards Stirling (but don't turn off for Stirling yet!), until it magically becomes the M9. The M9 joins the M80 from the left, but the main road is the M80 road. So you will not really notice the transition.
6. Trundle down the M9, until you reach J10. You will notice before you reach J10 (but after J9), a Traffic Information Digital Display Board, signs for Loch Lomond & the Trossachs, Stirling Castle, and the Safari Park. At J10, peel off the motorway, and on your left you will see a big building which is the Prudential/Scottish Amicable building. When you reach the roundabout at the end of the slip road, you want to take the Second (2nd) exit, which will be the A84 heading towards Callander, the Trossachs, and the Safari Park.
7. You will follow this road for 3 miles, and as you pass the Safari Park on the right (at a cross junction), you will need to ready yourself for the next Junction. You will be taking the A873, which is on the Left-Hand Side, and is bound for Aberfoyle. You will see a big Green Road Sign showing you the junction layout, which shows two roads to the left, the first is at a right angle to the main road you are on, and the second one, which peels off like a motorway slip road. It is this slip road you want, and not the right angle road. Another way of remembering this, is that you will be driving down a tunnel of trees (trees on either side), just after the trees end, you will see the 1st left, and you want to ignore that, and look for the easier way to come off. A word of caution about this junction though. Once you have driven down the slip road, there is a give way about 50 yards in, and you must give way.
8. Follow along the A873, as it goes through Thornhill. Watch out in Thornhill, A) because the Main Street is very narrow, and there is really only enough room for one car in total (so you will have to let vehicles pass and gain position yourself), and B) because at the end of Main Street, is a right angle right hand bend to stay on the main road. After passing through 2 small villages (Ruskie and Blairhoyle), you will arrive at a T junction (on a left hand bend, where you are the main road), with a junction off to Callander on the right. At this point the main road becomes the A81 bound for Aberfoyle. Stay on the A81 heading for Aberfoyle.
9. Continuing in the tradition that just because a road shares the same number at a junction, doesn't mean to say that they are joined up, and that the other roads must give way to that road, we arrive at a T junction as the minor road, past Port of Menteith (with a tourist sign for one of the Scottish Lake's, the Lake of Menteith), where the left hand turn takes us along the A81 to Glasgow, and the right hand turn takes us along the A821 to Aberfoyle. Take the right hand turn.
10. Once you arrive in Aberfoyle, you will drive through the Main Street. At the end of the Main Street, you will see that the road continues to the right and up hill, at a right angle. You should see that there is a Tourist Sign with many items on it, but one of them is the Forest Hills Hotel. This road basically continues in a straight line from the Main Street, so you can ignore the turn up to the right, and continue down this smaller street.
11. We are drawing special attention to a Y junction you will come up to along this small road (shortly after the National Speed Limit), The road almost naturally seems to flow towards the left and downhill, but infact you must stay uphill and to the right.
12. Continue down this road, and you will drive past a small loch with sunken sheds (boat sheds). Great care should be taken when driving around here. It seems that when they built the stone walls around the road and loch, they ran out of stones about 6" off the ground, and the road is literally on the bank of the loch. At many places the road can become too tight for even two cars to pass each other. So please take care. Finally, you will come back out and will see Loch Ard. Continuing along this road, you will see the Altskeith B&B, followed by a sharp right hand turn (with the water just over the bend if you miss!). A short distance after this, you should see the entrance to the MacDonald Hotels Forest Hills Hotel on the right and up hill. Drive up the drive way (again 1 car at a time in either direction), and ignore the 1st right hand turning. Once you have come to what appears to be a very small car park (about 5 yards square), you should see the road continues up the hill to the right. Head up this small road, and you should see the entrance to the Forest Hills Hotels on the left.
We thank you for choosing to fly Hayes Driveways today, and hope you will choose us again.
